COOL Pets

The Cool Jacket© and Cool Pillow© have been specially designed for pets who feel the heat.

Originally designed to help Bumble, a small black labrador who is fully trained as a Hearing Dog for Deaf People, but suffers from malignent hyperthermia which is a very rare disease in dogs.

He has found relief from the Cool Jacket©, especially during this hot summer, and when things get really bad, he lays down on his Cool Pillow© to give extra relief.

The Polar Powder ColdPak® used inside the Cool products has been developed to deliver a superior cold therapy treatment - using nano-composite technology. Polar Powder has superior cold release properties than that of ice and gel, and is easy to use in a reusable pack.

Constructed of tough quilted polycotton on the top and bound around the edges. Designed to take four ColdPaks© for the dog to lay on however he wants, and as he moves this will move the powder which will then re-charge cold.

On the underside of the Cool Pillow©, the ColdPaks© can be slotted into place, and the pillow is closed with hook and loop fixing across the middle.

The Polar Powder is non-toxic and biodegradable, and made up of minute particles that look like a sponge with tiny holes, and are filled with an emulsion which forms into ice-like crystals when put in the freezer.

The Polar Powder ColdPak© was originally produced for human use and is excellent for bruises, strains or other ailments that benefit from applying cold, and the bag can be applied direct as it does not 'burn' the skin.

COOL JACKET©

The Cool Jacket© has three pockets - each to hold a Polar Powder ColdPak®. The ColdPak® can live in the freezer and be bought out ready to use, as it remains malleable and becomes soft shortly after it leaves the freezer.

However, because of its specialist use, we are only able to sell it to customers who have written veterinary confirmation that their pet would benefit from the Cool Jacket©. We would need this confirmation because - unlike the Cool Pillow© - your pet is not able to get out of the Cool Jacket© himself.

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a registered charity that selects dogs - many from rescue centres - and trains them to alert deaf people to important everyday sounds they would otherwise miss.

Instead of barking, the dogs alert the deaf person by touch then lead them back to the source of the sound. For danger signals such as the smoke alarm or fire bell, the dogs alert then lie down to indicate danger.

Hearing dogs provide so much more than practical assistance. Having a dog provides companionship and a reason to get up, go out and meet people. Having a hearing dog also gives a deaf person peace of mind and the confidence to lead an independent life with extra security. Deafness is an invisible disability and it can be easy to become withdrawn and isolated. A hearing dog's burgundy coat makes their owner's deafness visible.

Since their launch at Crufts in 1982 they have placed more than 1,300 hearing dogs with deaf people. They receive no Government funding and rely on the generosity of individuals and organisations to keep helping deaf people and unwanted dogs.
